Lars Saabye Christensen was born in Oslo in 1953, this is also where the action of many of his books take place. Saabye Christensen published his first work in 1976 in form of a poetry collection. He have since moved on to become one of the most published authors in Norwegian history.

It was Saabye Christensen's novel from 2001 The Half Brother that intorduced him to the international book market. Saabye Christensen described it as his life's masterpiece.Saabye Christensen himself said he had spent decades thinking, planning and writing the book. It was not only Saaby Christensen that thought this of the book- it became a bestseller all over Scandinavia. He was also awarded the Nordic Literature Price for it the same year.

In his books Saabye Christensen often voice the people who struggle to fit into society and the norm of what is percieved as normal. His books Herman, Beatles and The Half Brother focuses on this. However, if you were to read one book by Saaby Christensen it would have to be The Half Brother. I have yet to hear anyone not falling in love with it, the book really is a masterpiece.
